Henniker: Manga Details

Students at Henniker Community School put their manga knowledge to work this week, planning and creating original manga adaptations of traditional Japanese fairy tales!

We’ve planned out 6-8 page projects, and started breaking down individual scenes into manga-style sequential treatments.  At the outset, this means isolating details (aspects) of each scene and presenting them to the reader through a sequence of panels.  To help us understand the process, we discussed students’ experience with choosing details in Haiku poetry.

Students used photographs of traditional Japanese architecture and clothing to enrich their fairy tale mangas.
