Classic Maya ComicsPosted: 05-12-2010
Students at Henniker Community School are learning Mayan “glyphs” as they study ancient Mesoamerican cultures.
We’re using Mayan glyphs, grammar, and numbers to record class-wide codices of historical and autobiographical family information. This is the first-ever Comics Workshop that’s based in both another language AND another writing system!
The Maya possessed a uniquely graphical and complex writing system, including syllabaries (glyphs that signify specific consonant-vowel combinations), logographs (glyphs that signify specific things, concepts, and actions), and the Mayan base-20 numbering system.
